Weekend Itinerary for a Scottsdale Adventure
You don’t have to start on Friday night, but you can – we’re including it either way.
Friday Evening
Hit the Gateway Loop Trail, tucked away in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. It’s a 4.5-mile hike, and when you reach the summit, you’ll catch a spectacular sunset (and still have plenty of time to get back down – but bring a headlamp in case you linger too long). Check your timing here, where you’ll find sunrise and sunset times.
When you’re done, head to one of DC Ranch’s great restaurants for dinner and drinks.

Saturday Morning
If you haven’t done a little dawn rock climbing in Scottsdale, now is the time to try it. Check out Tom’s Thumb Trail if you’re up for a challenge, or head to the Sears Kay Ruins Trail if you just want to take it easy.
Pro tip: The Sears Kay Ruins Trail gives you exclusive access to ancient Hohokam ruins dating back to about 1500 CE, but the tougher Tom’s Thumb Trail takes you to spectacular views of the southern McDowell Mountains, and you can watch Phoenix wake up from the summit.

After your hike, head to the Old Town Farmers’ Market in downtown Scottsdale, where you can pick up a great cup of coffee and enjoy pastries as you browse.
Saturday Afternoon
Spend the afternoon at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park if the weather’s nice, or head to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art or Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West to cool down for the afternoon.

Saturday Evening
Dive into a culinary adventure in one of Scottsdale’s spectacular restaurants. Choose one with outdoor seating, like Olive and Ivy, Talavera or Café Monarch.

Sunday Morning
If you have energy left over from Saturday, now’s the time to use it. You can mountain bike on several trails in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve or take a quick early-morning stroll – either way, it’s the perfect time to be out and about, because the trails are typically pretty quiet on early weekend mornings.
Sunday Afternoon
There’s always something fabulous happening in or around Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Culinary Festival, Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market and Artisan Fest are all happening this month, and you can keep tabs on upcoming events in Scottsdale here.
