Most Arizona golf courses close for 2-3 weeks between September and October every year for “overseeding.” The Country Club at DC Ranch will begin overseeding tomorrow, Monday, September 22nd, and will re-open on Friday, October 17th.
The Country Club will be open during these dates, but the golf course will be closed. The driving range is scheduled to re-open on October 10th.
In the fall, overseeding is a process where the bermuda grass that thrives in the dry summer heat, is cut very short and rye seed, which thrives in the winter, is laid over the top of the bermuda. The shortened bermuda grass provides a great surface for the rye to germinate.
With the shortening of the bermuda grass this week, the course looks a little less green, yet it was still in great playing condition. The good news is that we didn’t have to play out of any roughs!
The traditional opening day golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, October 24th. Due to clubhouse renovations, the opening day party will be held on November 7th.
