The McDowell Sonoran Preserve is the backdrop for all of DC Ranch. To learn more about rezoning plans for land within the preserve, residents are invited to attend the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve Land Rezoning Open House this Wednesday, December 17 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
Two rezoning requests will be voted on by the City Council in upcoming council meetings.
The first request is rezoning of residentially-zoned parcels of city-owned land in the preserve to “Conservation Open Space,” perpetually protecting the preserve. These parcels amount to approximately 22,300 acres within the preserve. These parcels stretch across the area south of Stagecoach Pass, west of the 144th St alignment, north of Cactus Road, and east of Pima Road. (See Proposed Rezoning Map.)
The second rezoning request relates to state trust land adjacent to the preserve and would rezone some residential parcels to resort and commercial property.
While both proposals are consistent with the city’s general plan, residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to understand the full impact that rezoning may have on the preserve, our neighborhoods and, potentially, home values.
The rezoning open house will be held at the Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park, 8950 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. This the final session on the rezoning proposals before they go to vote at the City Council.
There is no formal presentation: you will be able to review the plans, get your questions answered, and learn about next steps.
