If you’ve travelled on the Loop 101 Freeway in Scottsdale between the 202 Freeway and Shea Boulevard, you’ve probably seen construction signs or been caught in more traffic than usual. In August, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) started a 2-year expansion project on this 11 mile stretch of the Pima Freeway.
As your DC Ranch real estate specialists we’re committed to keeping you up-to-date on what’s happening in the community.
The 101 Pima Freeway project is adding one general purpose lane both north and south-bound, expanding the road to 5-lanes each way. Thankfully, a new northbound lane permitting entry from the 202 and McDowell Road onto the 101 is being added to improve traffic flow as well.
Also included in the project:
- Improved lighting and signs
- Additional merge lanes at Indian Bend and McDonald Drive
- Wider bridges and realigned on/off ramps
- Resurfacing of roads with rubberized asphalt
- Traffic cameras, ramp meters, traffic flow sensors and overhead message boards
Anticipate lane closures and restrictions so plan extra time for travel. ADOT’s plan is to focus construction before and after rush hour traffic and on weekends to minimize impact during heavy traffic periods.
The speed limit in construction zones has been reduced to 55 mph.
The 101 Pima Freeway improvement project was approved by voters in 2004 and funded by the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation plan.
