The Homestead Playhouse in DC Ranch has been creating a steady stream of plays and musical performances in this vibrant Scottsdale community. The playhouse, located in the Homestead Community Center, is located on Legacy Boulevard just west of Thompson Peak Parkway. For the 2013- 2014 season the playhouse performed productions of “Annie, Jr” and “The Poisoned Apple”.
The Homestead Playhouse was established by DC Ranch’s Community Council in 2006 after the neighborhood recognized a need for performing arts in and around DC Ranch. Since then, more than 17 plays and musicals have been performed, including “Beauty and the Beast, Jr” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
People of all ages are welcome to audition, and the directors generally select plays that can encompass a wide age range with plenty of parts for both younger and older theatre enthusiasts.
The mission of the playhouse is to:
- Create high quality performances for the residents of DC Ranch and Scottsdale to enjoy;
- Present art that is thought-provoking, sophisticated and socially conscious;
- Engage all age levels of participants;
- Inspire a “cultural explosion” and an “artistic legacy”
