The Country Club at DC Ranch was selected this week by the Arizona Golf Association to host the Arizona Senior Men’s Match Play Championship taking place September 8 – 11, 2014.
In a note to members this week, Dick Hyland, Director of Golf at The Country Club at DC Ranch, said originally the tournament was to be played at Desert Mountain’s Renegade Course. However, after severe storms that took place recently, Renegade sustained an estimated $750,000 in damage and has closed for repairs.
The Arizona Golf Association contacted Dick, and leaders of The Country Club at DC Ranch just this week. Working together, the groups came up with a solution to accommodate the tournament, yet still have the course available for member play.
The Tournament
Approximately 100 competitive amateur golfers divided into age groups 45-54, 55-65 and 65+ will play in the qualifying round on Monday, September 8 starting at 8:30 am. All matches are played from scratch, meaning that no player gets strokes.
On Tuesday, September 9th, the players who qualify after Monday’s round will tee off between 11:30 and 1:30 pm. On Wednesday, the field of players will be narrowed again and there will be morning and afternoon matches.
The final matches start at 7:00 am Thursday, September 11th. The top flight leaders from each division square off for the Arizona Senior Men’s Match Play title.
Spectators are welcome to follow their favorite players.
