In 1990, the Morrow family started Scottsdale’s Celebration of Fine Art. The upcoming show, scheduled to start on Saturday, January 17 and run through March 29, 2015, marks the 25th anniversary of this famous Scottsdale art event. Many Scottsdale natives and tourists have attended the event year after year, and attendance at last year’s show was over 50,000.
Scottsdale’s Celebration of Art is located less than 4 miles from DC Ranch. It takes place on Hayden Road, just south of the 101 Freeway in the big white tents. Come out and enjoy 40,000 square feet of indoor galleries and an acre of outdoor art. The show is open every day from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Celebration of Art is unique for several reasons:
- the show is juried
- artists work on new pieces and display their art
- artists and visitors interact: artists get direct feedback from visitors rather than through gallery owners
- 97% of those who attended the show in the past say that the show has the same quality or better than what’s available in the galleries in Old Town Scottsdale
- prices are lower than they are in the galleries
An Art Discovery Series will take place every Friday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm where artists of a select genre will tell the stories behind how they create their art. Patrons are invited to enjoy wine, cheese, demonstrations and panel discussions with the artists. Here’s the schedule:
Friday, January 23 – “The Challenge”: Artists are given a theme, time limits and work together to create a unique piece of art in front of the group.
Friday, January 30th – “Demystifying Abstraction”: This is a deep dive into abstract art with the artists.
February 6th – “Art of Fire”: Artists share how they use fire and heat to make ceramics, metal and glass pieces.
Friday, February 13 – “Paint the World”: Artists who paint on location talk about their experiences and how to capture the moment.
February 20th – “Art of The Horse”: Artists will talk with patrons about the many ways they honor horses.
Friday, February 27 – “Artistic Jewels”: Jewel and fiber artistry are the focus. Artists will share their secrets about design and materials.
Friday, March 6 – “History in Art”: Artists bring history to life.
Friday, March 13 – “Collaborative Creations”: The artists are hosting a second collaborative session where they will combine their skills to build a unique creation right in front of the audience.
Friday, March 20 – “Bronze Unplugged”: Artists will show patrons how clay is turned into bronze.
Friday, March 27 – “Mixed-Up!”: Artists will do demonstrations using mixed media.
