Responding to a recent survey of residents that indicated that speeding is a top concern, the DC Ranch Community Council appointed the Security Subcommittee to make recommendations to address speed concerns. One of the recommendations now adopted by the community board is the implementation of more defined speed limits in DC Ranch neighborhoods.
Already in effect, the new speed limits are determined by the type of road: main thoroughfares, feeder streets and side streets.
On main thoroughfares in larger communities, such as Horseshoe Canyon and Windgate Pass in Silverleaf, speed limits are 25 mph. Smaller feeder streets with more traffic will have 20 mph signs posted.
Side streets will be posted at 15 mph. These streets are near playgrounds and parks and roads into private homes.
New standardized signs will be in place by the start of the new year.
Programmable signs were installed in Silverleaf on Windgate Pass and in The Country Club Village on Desert Camp several months ago. While most people are driving responsibly, about 30% were clocked at excessive speed limits.
The Ranch Association leaders are further analyzing data collected by the electronic speed signs, but the data shows the signs are helping to slow drivers down.
The Matheson Team applauds the DC Ranch Community Council for taking quick action to address resident concerns. This is another reason we love DC Ranch.
