The NFL’s 2015 Pro Bowl is being played just 30 minutes from DC Ranch, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals. The game is set for Sunday, January 25th at 6:00 pm, just one-week before Super Bowl XLIX, which is also being held at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
This is the first time Arizona is hosting both games. The Pro Bowl and pre-game activities kick-off a week-long series of events in town leading up to the Super Bowl on February 1st.
Originally called the All-Star game, the match-up featured the top ranking stars in the NFL. In the late 1930’s through 1942, the game was played after the NFL Championship and featured the winning team vs. the NFL All-Stars with the best players from every team.
The All-Star game stopped in 1942 as a result of the war. In 1950 the NFL resurrected the game and renamed it the Pro-Bowl.
In 1970, when the AFC and NFC came into existence, the game was a match against the best players in the two divisions. The players for the bowl were selected by casting of votes from fans, players and coaches.
Today the players are selected by fan, coach and player vote, but, the teams are selected through a draft by the alumni and playing captains for each side. You can vote now for your favorite players of the 2014 season.
Beginning in 2016, the game will be played annually in Hawaii, at least for the foreseeable future. Mark your calendar and buy your tickets for the January 25, 2015 Pro Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium.
