The Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center (SWCC) in Scottsdale is a sanctuary for wild animals who are found injured, orphaned or abandoned or have lost their homes to development. Whenever possible, animals undergo rehabilitation and are released back into the wild.
SWCC traces its beginnings back to a young woman, Linda Searles, who realized there was a need for a rehabilitation center specializing in wild animals. In 1994, the purchase of 10 acres of land in northeast Scottsdale launched her idea into reality.
Trees were planted and enclosures were built, turning the expanse of desert into an oasis for wild animals.
Animals that are no longer able to survive in the wild are taken care of for the rest of their lives in the sanctuary at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center. Unlike zoo’s, SWCC does not buy, breed, sell or trade animals, nor are the animals for hire or used for commercial purposes.
Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center is passionate about sharing its knowledge about animals through education. The center utilizes tours to create a hands on environment to excite the general public about their cause.
You have to preregister online to schedule a tour on one of the available date’s and times. Required tour donations are $15/adult, $10/child and can be made by cash, check or charge the day of the tour.
