For the 10th year, the Scottsdale Police Officers’ Association’s (POSA) outreach team is hosting its “Back to School: Shop with a Cop” event next Wednesday and Thursday, July 30th and 31st.
This program involves more than just providing school supplies for kids. The Scottsdale officers will be interacting and shopping with the selected children.

Scottsdale Police 10th Annual Shop with a Cop
The Shop with a Cop program brings officers together with local disadvantaged school children to help them put their best foot forward with shoes, clothes and school supplies, and to let them know they have someone to turn to when they are dealing with peer pressure or other issues (drugs, gangs, bullying).
Each child receives new shoes, several outfits, and a backpack full of school supplies. All parents receive fingerprints and new pictures of their children taken by the police officers.
POSA is working in conjunction with Payless Shoe Source, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Vista del Camino and Concerned Citizens. It is a great time for police offers and kids to interact and break down the barriers that often exist.

Children are selected through local community centers and human services based on financial need. Last year the program sponsored almost 500 children who needed assistance. POSA’s goal this year is to provide $200 of clothes and supplies per child and increase the number of kids who benefit from the program.
