The golf course at The Country Club at DC Ranch reopening after 1-month renovation | Scottsdale

Yay!  The golf course at The Country Club at DC Ranch is reopening this Friday, July 4th after a month-long closure with renovated green-side bunkers, improved green drainage, and new controllers for watering systems.  The annual summer maintenance has been completed, too!

We were out walking this morning, and the greens, fairways, roughs and the renovated bunkers are looking marvelous.

Since golfing at DC Ranch is a favorite past time for The Matheson Team, we’re excited about this course project.  It will reduce costs for watering as well as ongoing bunker maintenance and demonstrates The Country Club’s commitment to the long term:  making the course even more playable.

Bill Kostes, Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent, led the $600,000+ project.   The maintenance team removed sand and wool liners; checked and repaired drainage lines; fixed bunkers with unnecessarily steep slopes and added sand-ramps so players can access bunkers more easily.

After preparing the base of the bunker, a new liner, called “Linebacker” was installed.  This new lining is inorganic and eco-friendly.  It is prepared, laid and cures similarly to cement, with openings in the surface so the water can drain through the sand.

Rocks, dirt and other sediment don’t permeate “Linebacker” as they would a traditional liner.  Once down, with the drainage exposed, the base almost looks like a fish fossil.

After curing a week or so, the new sand, an even mix of Arizona Pit and Augusta White, was put into the bunkers.  Bill Kostes and his team repurposed the old sand for top-dressing the fairways, greens and rough.

We can’t wait to play at the 8:30 shot-gun on July 4th!

Oh, and Country Club members, when you play the renovated bunkers, let us know what you think.
