While a master-planned community is designed by a developer, it’s the residents coming together that will shape its future. DC Ranch is at a critical juncture in the future direction of its surrounding area and amenities.
On July 31 the long awaited complete proposal for the Desert Discovery Center will be received from the consulting team and be available for public review. The following day, on August 1st there will be two open house style community meetings with a formal presentation at noon and 5 p.m., followed by one-on-one time with the designers. This is a great opportunity to see the direction the DDC is taking and get your specific questions answered. Since a large turnout is expected the presentations will take place at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts at 7380 East Second Street, Scottsdale.
In the following two months there will be multiple meetings that will formulate and finalize the direction of the project. Citizen’s opinions and suggestions from the commissions will culminate and be considered at the City Council study session on September 26th.
Here is the rollout of the timeline:
August 1 Community Meetings
August 10 Study Session – McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission and Tourism Development Commission
August 23 Study Session – City of Scottsdale Planning Commission
September 7 Development Review Board Meeting
September 7 McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission Meeting
September 13 Planning Commission Meeting
September 19 Tourism Development Commission Meeting
September 26 City Council Study Session
The DDC has been a source of much public debate and the controversy surrounding it has a back story. For DC Ranch residents, the thorn in the side is the project’s proposed location. Its site may be on the east side of Thompson Peak very near the Windgate Ranch and Silverleaf neighborhoods.
Other opposition centers around the project’s size, cost and source of funding for the DDC. The debate and controversy has not been fact based, but that changes at the end of this month when the final report is revealed.
Regardless of what side of the fence you are on, this is likely the last time your voice heard will be heard. Let’s make this a win-win project for everyone involved.
