If you’re like most other people, buying or building the perfect house is a dream of yours. But what exactly is the “perfect house?” You might have some ideas of your own, but recently Tech Insider decided to ask people what they imagine when they think of their dream home.
The site asked Pinterest to send the most popular pictures of each room in a home. Here’s what they found:
Exterior: From the outside, the most popular home on Pinterest looks very traditional. It has navy blue and white paint, a modest stone porch, and columns on both sides of the front door.
Living room: Two different living rooms made the cut for the most popular pictures on Pinterest, but they both have the same details. For example, both are very open, allowing you to see straight to the back of the house where windows show off the backyard. There are also tall ceilings and gray paint on the walls in both pictures, as in this photo of a recent listing of ours in Cave Creek.
Dining room: Both of the pictures of dream dining rooms show hardwood floors, unique chandeliers, and light paint – such as pale blue – on the walls. One of our current listings in Silverleaf features two of these three features, with a designer chandelier hand-picked by the homeowners.
Kitchen: Hardwood flooring is a big part of the dream kitchen, too. Both popular pictures show off white kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, a large island, and tile backsplash. This look has become hugely popular in Scottsdale and is commonly known as a “Restoration Hardware” or “Pottery Barn” style. The type of tile varies from small and colorful mosaics to bold, white subway tile, while stainless steel appliances almost always win the day.
TV room: Most people seem to switch from rustic to modern preferences when it comes to the TV room. A large sectional, marble floors, huge windows, and a big-screen TV all make up the perfect room for entertaining family and friends.
Master bedroom: In the perfect house, this important room has soothing paint colors, plush carpet, and a prominent lighting fixture hung above the bed, such as a chandelier or ceiling fan. It should be filled with comfortable furnishings, as well, including a soft chair or couch and plenty of pillows on the bed and soft textures from throws and other decorative pieces.
Closets: Not surprisingly, oversized walk-in closets – especially those with built-in shelves and drawers – are highly coveted. Mirrored doors are also popular for their ease of use.
Bathroom: One popular type of bathroom features double sinks, wood flooring, granite countertops, and white cabinets. Another option – maybe for the powder room – is more simplistic, with just one sink, no built-in cabinetry, tile flooring, and wood paneling on the walls.
Basement: For many people, the perfect house features a basement with a pool table, home theater, and wet bar. This is the “man cave” or a great space for families with kids to host sleepovers.
Attic: Forget the old, musty room you think of when you hear the word “attic.” Many people on Pinterest seem to think the attic should be a comfortable extension of the house, complete with nice wood flooring and a swing.
Garage: Not just any garage will do for most Pinterest users looking for a dream home. Apparently, you need a clean, organized garage with built-in cabinets and shelves, as well as hooks for hanging your bikes and yard tools.
Backyard: Some people looking for their dream home simply want enough space in the backyard for a covered patio with a pool table and a comfortable couch. Others want a small, enclosed space complete with a fire pit, fountain, grill, and a water feature. Of course, if you polled homebuyers in Scottsdale in particular, their dream backyard would include a pool and putting green, too!
Does the home of your dreams include any of these features? If you are thinking of buying a home soon, this list should get you thinking about what your perfect house will include.
If you are about to sell your Scottsdale home, this list can also let you know what buyers might expect, especially in terms of overall style and finishes. Either way, you can come to The Matheson Team for assistance!
