The Country Club at DC Ranch hosted the US Open Women’s Qualifier on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014. The Country Club was one of 20 golf clubs internationally selected for this honor.
The feedback from players about the course and hospitality was overwhelmingly positive. In a note to volunteers, Dick Hyland, Director of Golf at The Country Club said the USGA mentioned the possibility of considering the club to host a national event someday.
Included in the international field of 80 amateur and professional golfers were Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, and Big Break participant and Scottsdale resident, Sadena Parks.
The qualifier is a one-day, 36-hole tournament. The top 3 players from each sectional qualify to play in the US Women’s Open, played June 19-22, 2014 at the famous Pinehurst #2.
Qualifier Results: Sadena Parks sealed medalist honors by 4 shots posting rounds of 68 and 69 (137). Cheyenne Woods shot 73 and 68 (141) and tied for the 2nd spot with Scottsdale native and amateur golfer, Madison Kerley.
Two alternates were named after a play-off, Clare Amelia Legaspi (a) of the Phillipines and amateur Sophia Popov (a) from Germany, turning in scores of 142. Carolina Perez, one of The Country Club’s own employees, performed phenomenally shooting 74-75 (149). Tying for 10th place overall.
