Who will be the 2016 Charles Schwab Cup Champion? We will know this weekend when the last event on the Champions Tour will be played on the Cochise course in Desert Mountain! You can either watch the tournament on The Golf Channel or in person under blue skies at the Jack Nicklaus designed course in North Scottsdale.
There were 30 invites sent out to the top 30 money winners on the Champions Tour, formerly known as the Seniors Tour, and if you follow golf you know this tournament is for golfers age 50 and older.
Currently the standings leader is Bernhard Langer with Colin Montgomerie in the # 2 spot. Of course, no one can predict the winner, but you’ll want to keep your eye on Tom Pernice Jr., winner in 2014 in a sudden death playoff against Jay Haas. Just last month at Sherwood Country Club, Pernice shot a final-round 70 that jumped him from the #32 spot to the #9 spot in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup standings.
Billy Andrade took home the trophy in 2015 and our local favorite, Tom Lehman, was the overall Charles Schwab Cup Champion for two consecutive years in 2011 and 2012.
The weather forecast for the tournament is picture perfect with all days in the low 80’s! The tournament runs from November 9th through Sunday November 13 and tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.
