Spring Training in Scottsdale — February through April

Ahhh, the schedule has been set and Spring Training is right around the corner. Visitors flock to Arizona in droves to follow their favorite teams and athletes as they prepare for the season.

Spring Training in Scottsdale

Spring Training in Scottsdale begins this month

A great resource for being in the know is The Spring Training Connection that covers everything from tips on getting autographs to spring training recaps that go back to 2008.  Another great resource for Cactus League events is Experience Scottsdale’s 2015 Spring Training Guide.

With well over 200+ games played here in Arizona alone there’s more to preparing your plan of attack than getting your stadium seats dusted off and making sure the sunscreen is replenished.

The first practice dates for pitchers and catchers commence mid-February followed by a roll-out of the games that continue through April 4th. Scottsdale is host to two locations for Spring Training, the Salt River Fields and Scottsdale Stadium. Arizona as a whole is host to ten locations, Scottsdale’s two as well as Camelback Ranch, Goodyear Ballpark, Maryvale Baseball Park, Peoria Sports Complex, Phoenix Municipal Stadium, Sloan Park, Surprise Stadium and Tempe Diablo Stadium.

Salt River Fields has been the home to the Diamondbacks and Rockies since 2011 and is the Cactus League’s crown jewel stadium. Located at 7555 N. Pima Road in Scottsdale, it is a 140-acre complex with seating to accommodate 11,000 and most of the seating is thankfully shaded.

Did you know? Even though Salt River Fields has a Scottsdale address, the stadium is physically on Native American land and the entire cost of the complex was funded by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Scottsdale Stadium has been home to the Giants since 1992 and has seating capacity to hold 12,000 fans. Its 11-acre complex is in the heart of downtown Scottsdale and is an urban experience with the not-to-be missed annual treat straight from San Francisco, garlic fries paired with a good cold San Fran Anchor Steam.

“People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”   Hall of Famer, Rogers Hornsby
