December is here and the excitement of the holiday season is underway. For the next month, it’s parties galore so why not “hit the trail” to keep in perfect shape? The Pinnacle Peak Trail that is, where every morning and early evening there is a succession of “ants” making their way up and down not one small mountain – but two – and then doing it all over again on the return.
The trail is located just 10 minutes from DC Ranch and runs between the multi-million dollar communities of Estancia and Desert Highlands with stunning views of boulder outcroppings and blue skies as far as the eye can see. The vistas are spectacular and the elevation gain of only 1,300’ accommodating for most hikers. The high point on the trail is 2,889’.
This isn’t a loop trail and given the length of approximately 1.75 miles one way, you’ll want to gauge when to turn back if you aren’t in stellar condition.
This isn’t the type of hiking if you are looking for the quiet solitude of nature, unless you are one of the first few to hit the trail right at sunrise when the gates open.
But if you love people and want an exercise “party” come out on Saturdays and Sundays when families, guests of the neighboring Four Seasons at Troon North, and athletes of all levels convene at the trail and head for an invigorating hike.
