The Urban Farming Revolution has taken this country by storm in the last decade and the trend sees no sign of slowing down! In fact, in all types of communities there are small plots of land located in the most unusual places harvesting bountiful crops that are shared by members of the community.
Did you know that there is a group of urban gardeners living right here in DC Ranch? Yep, and they have formed a collaborative effort between Copper Ridge school teachers and administrators, DC Ranch residents and staff of the DC Ranch Community Council, Ranch Association and Covenant Commission to create the DC Ranch Community Garden!
This Saturday the gardening community is meeting at The Garden for an outing, and you’re invited! Everyone will board a chartered bus and set out to tour urban farms in the greater Phoenix area. Jack Gilcrest, expert landscape architect, will guide the Off the Ranch: Urban Farm Tour through some public urban gardens and some never before accessed private gardens. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain understanding of the tools of the trade and glimpse terrain-tested techniques in becoming a successful urban gardener.
It’s easy to reserve your space for the February 25th tour which is $40 and includes a box lunch from Wildflower Bread Company, coffee in the garden at 7:45 a.m. and transportation that departs at 8:15 a.m. and arrives back at DC Ranch by 2:00 p.m.
Starting this month DC Ranch will be using Event Bright to register for this and all future scheduled activities. You only need to create one account per household and once you have created and stored your credit card information, it is typically a one-click signup for most events.
It’s the residents of DC Ranch and their unwavering commitment to the community that has created unique events and workshops found nowhere else in North Scottsdale. Bring a friend, sunscreen, comfortable shoes and join in the fun!
