If you are looking to buy your Scottsdale dream home, you can expect to go on at least one trip to see the homes listed for sale that meet your criteria before you make your final decision. You might even go on several of these trips as you narrow down your options to just a few homes.
Before you and your Realtor head out to see Scottsdale homes for sale, keep these tips in mind.
What to bring
As you prepare to go to the first home tour, there are a few items you should bring. First, make sure you have a way to take pictures of the house. Even if you have access to pictures of it on the online listing, it can be helpful to have some taken from different angles or of rooms that were left out of the listing you see online.
You should also grab a tape measure so you can get an idea of how large the rooms are. This way, you can compare them to the rooms in your current house and determine if your furniture will fit. If not and you end up falling in love with the house, you might have to buy new furniture once you move in, adding to your costs.
Finally, make sure you have a way to take some notes while you tour the house. You can type a memo to yourself on your phone or bring a notepad and pen. Either way, it’s important that you record any observations or questions you come up with on your home tour before you buy a Scottsdale home and that you address them with your Realtor.
What to look for
Sure, it’s tempting to only take note of how gorgeous the kitchen is or how many bedrooms there are as you walk through the house, but you need to pay attention to a few details in particular. First, observe how much sunlight the house gets during the day. This might require you to open a few window coverings as you check out the house. Don’t forget to open the doors to closets and pantries to make sure there is enough storage space, too.
As you admire the freshly painted kitchen and spa-like bathrooms in the house, look for signs of water damage near the sinks, shower, or tub. If the wood seems warped or rotted, there could be even bigger problems – such as mold – lurking beneath. Additionally, before you leave the house, step outside and listen for any excess noise from traffic, barking dogs, or nearby trains or airports.
What to ask
Before you buy a Scottsdale home, it’s important to have all the facts about a home, and you can learn many of them during these trips. Your Realtor will be with you every step of the way and will have already researched the house you are interested in. This is the time to ask any questions you have about the house, such as how long it’s been on the market and how much comparable properties have sold for.
Once you finish touring, you should have the information you need to determine if you want to put in an offer. At that point, you can talk to your Realtor about the next step. If you’re not yet working with a Realtor to look for your new Scottsdale home, you are always welcome to reach out to us.
