Whether you’re trying to sell your home during the holidays or simply want to impress guests this December, curb appeal is everything. You want to catch the eye of anyone passing by, but at the same time, you don’t want your house to be memorable for all the wrong reasons. So before you decorate your home for the holidays, take these tips into consideration.
Stick to a minimal, classic look
It’s tempting to pull out all the stops – along with all your inflatable Santas! – but this won’t necessarily increase your curb appeal. Instead, it might lead to a cluttered look on your lawn. Try to shy away from too many different colors and characters in front of your home. Putting up some simple white lights along the top of your house should give you a good start when it comes to decorating for the holidays. If you want more than just lights, consider adding some large candy canes along your walkway, or top your cactus with a cute Santa hat.
Bring attention to your home’s strengths
Think about what makes your house the best one on the block, and then highlight those features. For example, if you have beautiful bay windows, put some Christmas lights around them to draw the eye to this feature. Maybe you have a grand front entry way, place a wreath on the front door, add some lights around it and a life size toy solider next to the door to really make a statement.
If you have a great porch you’d like to show off, make sure you hang some Christmas lights above it to draw some attention to this feature. You might also consider placing a few holiday-themed props on the porch, such as lanterns, potted poinsettias or a small Christmas tree or two. Top it all off with a holiday-themed welcome mat to draw in your guests or potential homebuyers!
Use your yard to your advantage
Don’t forget to dress up your front yard as you try to boost curb appeal during the holidays. If you have a few trees or bushes, you can wrap lights around them or even add some ornaments to them. Just make sure anything you put in your trees is large enough to be visible from the street. Christmas tree’s are not just for inside your house, you could always put one outside, too! Consider adding fake snow to it, or even a few tasteful decorations, such as large bulb ornaments or some Christmas lights.
Lastly, be sure to open your curtains or blinds so people can see your indoor Christmas tree and other nice décor as they walk up to your front door! And if you’re thinking of selling your DC Ranch home this winter, contact The Matheson Team today to get the help you need.
