How to choose the right kitchen hardware for your Scottsdale home

It’s commonly known that one of the quickest, least expensive ways to improve the kitchen is to add new hardware to the cabinets and drawers. However, what’s not so clear is the type of hardware that would look the best in your Scottsdale home. Here are some tips on making the right decision as you upgrade your kitchen in this way.

Pulls vs knobs

Before you add any hardware to your Scottsdale home’s kitchen cabinets and drawers, you need to decide between pulls and knobs. They both have some pros and cons to be aware of, so it comes down to personal preference.

Pulls – which are also called handles – are longer and are attached to the cabinet at two different points. This makes them easier to grab than knobs.

By contrast, knobs are smaller and have only one attachment point. There are lots of sizes and shapes to choose from, allowing you to go with anything from basic knobs to intricate designs. Just keep in mind that the larger the knob, the easier it is to pull open your drawers and cabinets.

Choose the best finish

If you’re having trouble picking the best finish for your hardware, you can start by looking at the finishes that are already in your kitchen. If your sink faucet is stainless steel, it should be easy to find knobs or handles that have the same finish. If you have black appliances, bronze, or black hardware would work well, while stainless steel or nickel might be better if your appliances are made out of stainless steel.

In addition, you should consider the color of your cabinets when choosing the finish of the knobs and pulls. For example, if your cabinets are made of light wood, choose a dark finish – such as bronze – for the hardware. If you have dark wood, stainless steel or nickel will contrast nicely with the cabinets.

If your cabinets are white, pretty much any finish will look good. So if you want a modern, chic look, go with nickel, chrome, or stainless steel. For a more traditional look for the kitchen in your Scottsdale home, you can try bronze, brass, or pewter.

Prepare to install your new kitchen hardware

Once you know whether you want knobs or pulls, and you have an idea of the finish you prefer, it’s time to browse some hardware. As you shop, you’ll find that there are plenty of styles available.

You can stick with a plain round knob, or you can go for one with a unique design so it looks like a globe, a bunch of grapes, or a rose. Similarly, you can choose a plain, straight handle, or you can opt for one that’s curved or even looks like a tree twig. Your choices will seem endless as you shop.

If you can’t make up your mind in the store, consider buying a few to try out. Luckily, most hardware takes only minutes to install, so you can put a few different knobs or pulls in your kitchen to test out how they look and how easy they are to use.
