A variety of community events to enjoy in DC Ranch in February

Whether you’re in search of something fun to do with your whole family or just with other adults, DC Ranch has a variety of community events to enjoy in February.  When you live in this fantastic North Scottsdale neighborhood, there’s no need to travel far to have a fun time.

Grapenuts – Wednesday, February 8

This wine tasting club meeting will take place just days before Valentine’s Day, so it’s no surprise that it will involve chocolate! Just bring a bottle of your favorite port, zinfandel, or tempranillo wine, as well as some chocolate to share. You can then try out a variety of wine and chocolate on this sweet Wednesday evening.

Grapenuts meets at the Desert Camp Community Center from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. You can register for this DC Ranch event here.

Starlight Concert – Friday, February 10

February features the first of the Starlight Concert series that lasts through May. For the next four months, DC Ranch residents can enjoy outdoor concerts every Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Market Street Park.

The concerts are free, so just bring chairs or blankets to sit on and the food of your choice. The band that will be performing on February 10 is Groove Merchants, which is a 10-piece show band that specializes in Motown, top 40s, and classic songs. If you have any questions about this concert series, call the Community Council at (480) 342-7178.

Passport to Art – Wednesday, February 15

If you appreciate artwork and would like to meet local artists, you’ll want to attend February’s Passport to Art. Hosted at the Desert Camp Community Center from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, this event will focus on the artwork of Arizona’s own Joanie and Charlie Wolter.

This artistic married couple lives in Sedona. Joanie crafts unique sculptures out of fiber clay, while Charlie makes beautiful 3D fused glass pieces. RSVP to this event so you can learn more about these talented artists at the Passport to Art.

Spotlight Speakers Series – Wednesday, February 22

If you like the idea of learning something new from a subject expert, come to the Homestead Community Center from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. That’s when you can listen to April Solomon, who is the Executive Director of the Musical Instrument Museum, talk about how the museum got its start and is now among the top 20 museums in the country.

Arrive at 6:00 pm to enjoy some beer or wine and appetizers before the event begins at 6:30. You can RSVP here.

DC Ranch Film Club: Academy Awards Party – Thursday, February 23

Movie buffs in the DC Ranch Film Club meet up once a month to discuss a particular movie, but this time, they’re simply celebrating the Oscars. When you head to Desert Camp Community Center at 5:30 pm, you can look forward to discussing the nominees, playing trivia games, and entering a contest in which you predict who will win in each category at the Academy Awards the following weekend.

Jason Carney, Executive Director of the Phoenix Film Festival, will host this film club meeting, so you don’t want to miss it! You can pre-register for this free DC Ranch event here.

Off the Ranch – Saturday, February 25

February’s Off the Ranch meetup will feature a tour of urban farms in Phoenix. If you want to come to this DC Ranch event, plan to meet at the Community Garden at Copper Ridge School at 7:45 am for coffee. From there, a bus will arrive at 8:15 am to take you to different urban farms not too far from DC Ranch.

The registration fee for this event is $40, which includes the guided tour, bus ride, and lunch from Wildflower Bread Co. You can register here.

Family Play Date – Saturday, February 25

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your evening with your family, come to the Homestead Community Center at 6:30 pm to watch a play called “Interrupting Vanessa.” This play is both touching and amusing, with a focus on main character Vanessa, a young girl who recently lost her father.

The performance is recommended for viewers who are 6 years old and above. You can buy tickets for $5 each or get answers to any questions you have by registering here.

Of course, February is also when DC Ranch Day takes place, so be sure to check out this event, too!
