Sunrise Peak
Near Fountain Hills, Sunrise Peak is best accessed by Sunrise Trail, a 3.6-mile trek that’s not too difficult; it’s a moderate, out–and–back trail. This trail offers beautiful views, a chance to see wildlife, and is accessible year-round. This trail is mainly used for hiking and running. Dogs are allowed but must remain on a leash. This trail is not shaded, but offers wonderful views, especially from the peak.
Thompson Peak
This 9.5-mile trail is moderately trafficked. This is a difficult, out-and-back trail well–suited for hiking, mountain biking, and nature walks. Although it is a steep climb, along the trail you will see beautiful wildflowers and catch glimpse of wildlife. While it may be a challenging hike, the views are worth it.
Lost Dog Wash Trail
This trail is a moderate, 5.8-mile out-and-back trail. It is located near Scottsdale and it typically used for hiking and mountain biking. The rocky trail offers great views and leads to a beautiful overlook, perfect for catching a glorious sunrise.
Tom’s Thumb Trail South
This trail features 11.3 miles of beautiful wildflowers, wildlife and gorgeous views. This trail is considered difficult, but it is accessible year-round. This trail offers views of the McDowell mountains and urban Phoenix. There is no shade, so be sure to bring plenty of water.
Granite Mountain Loop
This is an easy, 5-mile loop that is perfect for any skill level in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. There is very little elevation change, it is easily accessible, and well defined. This trail offers gorgeous views and a
ton of great wildlife and lots of boulders.
Brown’s Summit
This out-and-back trail is located near Scottsdale. It’s about 3 miles long and offers beautiful scenic views. This trail is great for hiking, walking, running and nature trips. The trail is well–maintained and the final summit, while a steeper climb, is well worth the view.
