One of the best things about spending the summer in Scottsdale is that you always have access to a pool or splash pad, thanks to the many public parks, shopping centers, and aquatic areas here. If you and your children are hoping to get outside and splash around somewhere today, here’s where you should go.
Parks with splash pads
If you’re looking for a free, fun way to cool off this summer, you can head to one of the many local parks. It may be too hot to play on the playground equipment, but it’s not too hot to splash around in one of the parks with splash pads. The following are located in Scottsdale:
Chesnutt Park – 4565 N. Granite Reef Rd. – Chesnutt Park is open every day from sunrise to 10:30 pm, giving your children plenty of time to play around under the towers as they spray water everywhere.
Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park – 8950 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd. – This is another park that’s open from sunrise to 10:30 pm, and it’s a short drive from DC Ranch. You’ll find the spray pad right next to the playground and lighted basketball courts.
Agua Linda Park – 8732 E. McDonald Dr. – This neighborhood park is conveniently located right off the 101 and McDonald Drive. It features a large playground, sand volleyball court, lighted basketball court, and of course some spray poles that local kids love in the summer.
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park – 7301 E. Indian Bend Rd. – Locally known as “the train park,” McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has even more to offer than a carousel and train rides. It also has two playgrounds with spray poles right near the benches, so you can relax and watch the kids play.
Paiute Park – 3210 N. 66th St. – If your kids love animals, they’ll enjoy the spray poles and the spray dolphin and elephant at this South Scottsdale park.
Vista del Camino Park – 7700 E. Roosevelt St. – Not only does this South Scottsdale park have two beautiful lakes and two playgrounds, but it also has a refreshing spray pad and plenty of shaded seating for parents.
Shopping centers with splash pads
If you prefer not to take a separate trip to a local park so the kids can cool off, how about letting them check out one of the splash pads at local shopping centers? This way, you can take a quick break from shopping or running errands, and let the kids play in the water while you enjoy iced coffee or ice cream from nearby.
Scottsdale Quarter – 15059 N. Scottsdale Rd. – Scottsdale Quarter is an open-air shopping center that has more than 80 retail stores, over a dozen eateries, and a movie theater. What local children love best about this Scottsdale shopping center is its free splash pad located right by the shops, restaurants, and a family restroom.
Kierland Commons – 15205 N. Kierland Blvd – This is another Scottsdale shopping center that has dozens of stores, restaurants, and a great splash pad. The best part about the splash pad at Kierland Commons is that it’s close to both a shady spot to sit and Cold Stone Creamery!
And of course if you live in DC Ranch, the Desert Camp Community Center is available to all residents. Its large heated pool and smaller toddler wading pool are popular among DC Ranch residents looking to cool off during the summer, and when you check it out yourself, you’ll see why!
