As August approaches, so does the first day of the 2015-2016 school year. Kids in DC Ranch are within the boundaries of the Scottsdale Unified School District, which starts two weeks from today on Monday, August 10.
We have the scoop on what you need to know about local schools before the year starts, whether it’s choosing a school when moving to Scottsdale or knowing your options when your child is transitioning to junior high or high school.
The elementary school in DC Ranch goes from kindergarten through 8th grades, so you’re covered for elementary and middle school. The first day of school is August 10, from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm, though kindergarten students will get an early release at 12:15 pm on that day and the rest of the week.
Before school starts, there will be a Back-to-School Event in the Copper Ridge cafeteria on August 7 from 9 to 10:30 am where students can meet their teachers, check out the bus routes, open a lunch account, and buy uniforms. Take a look at the supply list and uniform policy to see what DC Ranch kids will need before they start school this year.
This is the public high school that many DC Ranch kids attend, and is located just down the road at Gold Dust Avenue (just south of Shea) and Scottsdale Road. School starts August 10 and goes from 7:45 am to 2:20 pm. Registration starts next week.

Brophy College Preparatory/Xavier College Preparatory
Brophy is a Jesuit Catholic all-boys school in Central Phoenix at Central Avenue and Camelback Road, and Xavier is its all-girls Catholic counterpart located right next door at 7th Street and Highland. Both are considered an excellent choice for DC Ranch residents looking for a top-notch, nationally ranked private school.
School starts for Brophy on August 10 and goes from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. For information on the books and uniforms you will need for Brophy, check out this resource list.
Xavier freshmen have orientation on August 10 from 8:30 am to 2 pm, and school officially starts for all grades on Tuesday, August 11. The Student Handbook will tell you what you need to know about schedules, grades, uniforms, and more.
No matter which school you send your kids to, make sure they attend the Back to School Bash on August 8 from 6 to 9 pm. Kids can swim, dance, eat pizza, and socialize a few days before school starts.
If your kids went to the Back to School Bash last year, they’ll already know they don’t want to miss this one! The event is free, though you’re encouraged to bring a children’s book to donate. Click here to register by August 6.
