If you’re a fan of the theater, DC Ranch is a great place to live, because this neighborhood hosts two theatrical performances per year. More specifically, the Homestead Playhouse puts on a program every fall and every spring. And this spring, the performance you have to look forward to will be Shrek the Musical Jr.
About Shrek the Musical Jr.
The Shrek movies have been popular among children for years, so young actors will likely be excited to recreate them on the stage of the Homestead Playhouse. Like the series of movies, the musical is about an ogre named Shrek.
After running into some fairytale characters who have been exiled to his swamp by Lord Farquaad, Shrek goes on an adventure with a talking donkey who loves to crack jokes. Together, they confront Lord Farquaad, who requests that Shrek rescue Princess Fiona. Of course, along the way, Shrek encounters new friends, lots of jokes from the donkey and eventually love.
How to attend the audition workshop
If your children are thinking about auditioning for the musical, they are advised to attend the audition workshop first. This is where they can get some tips on how to prepare for the audition, which will be especially helpful if they have never auditioned for a musical before.
The workshop will take place on Friday, January 20, from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Homestead Community Center. You can sign up for a spot here.
How to attend auditions
Whether or not your children attend the audition workshop, they are invited to go to the auditions the following week. They will take place on Tuesday, January 24 from 4 pm to 7 pm and Thursday, January 26, from 4:30 pm to 7 pm. Callbacks for certain actors will be on Friday, January 27 from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Those audition times are for actors ages 8 and up. This musical is also open to younger actors between 5 and 7 years old, but they will get their own auditions on Thursday, January 26 from 4 pm to 4:30 pm.
Shrek the Musical Jr. will be performed on April 27 to 29 at 6:30 pm and then again on April 30 at 3 pm. If you have any questions about the audition workshop or the auditions themselves, you can call Lindsay Vanegas at (480) 538-3542.
