If you’re looking for ways to get your children involved in the DC Ranch community, look no further than the Homestead Playhouse. Located at the Homestead Community Center, this program puts on two performances per year: one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall program this year is “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” Here’s what you need to know about this musical.
About Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.
If you ever watched Schoolhouse Rock as a child, you probably have some idea of how the musical goes. Lyrics like “conjunction junction, what’s your function?” and “I’m just a bill” might ring a bell. They might have gotten stuck in your head, but they probably also taught you a few things about math, grammar, history, government, and more.
Now your children can get the same experience by singing songs like “Just A Bill,” “Conjunction Junction,” and “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” on stage. So if you have any budding singers, here’s their chance to try out for a musical!
How to Audition
Auditions are open to children ages 8 and up, and most members of the Homestead Playhouse are ages 9-12. While many performers in this playhouse’s presentations live in DC Ranch, this is not a requirement, so any young Scottsdale resident can audition.
The auditions will take place at the Homestead Community Center on Tuesday, August 18 and Thursday, August 20, from 4 to 6 pm. Each audition will last for 30 minutes, and 10 children will audition at once. Your child will not need to prepare any material in advance. Instead, the children auditioning will learn a short song and dance they will use to audition.
You can sign your child up for an audition spot and then fill out the audition packet, which your child will need to bring to the appointment. This packet should answer any questions you might have about the auditions, rehearsals, and performances. You can also send an email to Lindsay McEuen at lindsaymceuen@gmail.com if you have any other questions.
Musical Rehearsals and Performances
Most rehearsals for “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Fridays, usually between 4 and 7 pm. The children will then perform the musical from Thursday, November 19 to Saturday, November 21 at 6:30 pm. They will also perform on November 22 at 3 pm.
Whether or not you have children in the performance, this is a great chance to support your DC Ranch and Scottsdale neighbors. You can start buying tickets to the musical on October 19.
If your child is not quite ready to audition for a musical this fall, he or she might consider trying out for the spring performance, which will be “Junglebook.” Signups for those auditions will begin in January.
This is just one example of the many activities DC Ranch offers Scottsdale residents. If you are interested in buying a home in this family-friendly North Scottsdale neighborhood, please contact The Matheson Team for help finding a home today.
