It’s the Homestead Playhouse’s 10th anniversary this year, and what better way to celebrate than with a theatrical production? That’s why children who live in DC Ranch are invited to attend the audition workshop for The JunGirl Book, which is an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
About The JunGirl Book
As you might guess, this version of the story centers on a young girl lost in the jungle, rather than a boy as in the original story. With the help of some friendly creatures – including a black panther, bear, and wolves – she is able to fend off the dangers that lurk in the jungle, such as pythons and tigers.
The story doesn’t only center on the girl’s relationship with jungle animals. It also focuses on some important traits for children to learn, including bravery, loyalty, and tenacity.
What to expect from the audition workshop
The workshop for The JunGirl Book will take place on Wednesday, January 20, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Homestead Community Center. Children who have never been involved in a production with the Homestead Playhouse are encouraged to attend, since it will feature tips on auditioning.
The audition workshop can even benefit parents of children who plan to audition, because it will offer a chance to get familiar with the Homestead Playhouse and the wonderful people who run it. Be sure to sign your child up for a spot at the audition playhouse as soon as possible, since there are a limited number of spots available.
About the auditions for The JunGirl Book
Whether or not your children attend the audition workshop, they can attend the actual auditions as long as they are at least 7-years-old. The auditions for The JunGirl Book will be held at the Homestead Community Center on Tuesday, January 26, and you can choose to go from either 5-6 pm or 6-7 pm. If your children can’t make it that day, they can go on Thursday, January 28 from 5-6 pm instead.
Auditions will last about 15 minutes each and do not require kids to memorize anything in advance. Just sign up for a spot and then complete the audition packet before the date of the audition.
Performances for The JunGirl Book will take place from April 28-30 at 6:30 pm, and on May 1 at 3 pm.
