If you’re looking to take a break from looking at DC Ranch homes for sale with The Matheson Team (even though it’s so much fun), we have 3 easy day trip suggestions for you. Each one is less than a 2.5 hour drive from the North Scottsdale area.
1. Sedona (approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes)
Surrounded by national forests and the red rocks, Sedona is a beautiful setting to enjoy nature with family or friends. Here are a few things to explore while in Sedona:
- Pink Jeep Tours are a unique and fun way to sight-see. With multiple tours ranging in distance and route you can experience Sedona
- Slide Rock State Park is a unique natural slide running through the red rocks of Sedona. It is a very popular destination with great hiking. There is a per car fee of $10.
2. Flagstaff (approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes)
Flagstaff temperatures can be a refreshing 30 degrees cooler than the Scottsdale area, due to its 6,910 ft elevation (compared to Scottsdale’s 1,257 ft elevation.)
- At the Lowell Observatory, one of TIME Magazine’s 2011 World’s 100 Most Important Places, you can take a peak through the 24-inch Alvan Clark Telescope and explore one of the world’s oldest observatories.
- The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a unique destination, specializing in plants native to the high elevation habitat of northern Arizona. They feature live raptor shows every day except Friday, and they are closed on Tuesdays.
3. Tucson (approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes)
Many folks in Scottsdale forget that Tucson has many cool places to sight-see and explore:
- Sabino Canyon in the Santa Catalina mountain range provides access to stunning vistas, small creeks, and exciting hikes. It is a great place for a family picnic or to enjoy peace and quiet.
- Visit the University of Arizona — take a tour of the old historic brick buildings and learn its history
- The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, natural history museum, publisher, and art gallery — there should be something appealing to everyone in the family. The museum is home to more than 230 animal species and 1,200 varieties of plants.
