The Arizona State Fair is coming to the State Fairgrounds from October 1 to October 30, 2021 – and this year’s event is shaping up to be the best yet. For more than a century, the Arizona State Fair has been an annual tradition in Central AZ, and you’ll be glad to know that the performances, contests and competitions, rides and other attractions are on-track after taking a hiatus last year.
The Ultimate Guide to the 2021 Arizona State Fair
First, the hours: The fair is open October 1 through October 30, and it’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Admission gates are open from Wednesday to Sunday with the following hours:
- Wednesdays: Noon to 9 p.m.
- Thursdays: Noon to 9 p.m.
- Fridays: Noon to 10 p.m.
- Saturdays: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Sundays: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Other than those hours, the Midway, food and outside vendors remain open until 11 p.m. or later, depending on demand – if there are a lot of people still there, they’ll stay open. Rides stop after the La Grande Wheel shuts off for the night, and the shopping pavilion building closes at 10 p.m. Livestock barns close at 9 p.m. each night.
How Much Does the Arizona State Fair Cost?
Tickets for the Arizona State Fair are selling at the following prices:
- Kids under 4: Free
- Kids 5 to 13: $10
- Adults over the age of 14: $12
- Seniors over the age of 55: $10
Rides are an additional cost. You can download the FunPass mobile app (here for Android and here for iPhone) and scan your phone at rides and games or purchase ride tickets on-site.
Students can also download the Read & Ride Report Form, read three books approved by a teacher or guardian as age-appropriate, and complete brief summaries of each book. With an adult’s signature, students can bring the completed form to the Guest Services area to receive free ride passes.
What Competitions Are At the State Fair This Year?
There are several competitions for kids and adults at the 2021 Arizona State Fair, including:
- 4-H
- Culinary (jams and jellies, pies and savory recipes)
- Fine Arts
- Horticulture
- Home Arts
- Photography
- Scouts
- STEM
- Youth and Student Arts
Can I Perform at the State Fair?
The State Fair is still accepting applications for performers at the 2021 event. All talented performers are invited to apply, but although organizers book as many performers as possible, they do so on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can bring your own equipment (such as speakers and instruments, props and costumes), but they ask that you don’t bring things like choral risers, chairs and large props. There are dressing rooms on-site where performers can prepare, as well.
Can I Be a Vendor at the State Fair?
Food and shopping vendors are encouraged to apply for a spot at the State Fair. They’re looking for people who have a unique or especially appealing product that fits with the Arizona State Fair program.
