The temperature is now in the double digits and dropping, and that means Scottsdale residents can finally embrace the fall season. Not only are Halloween and Thanksgiving fast approaching, but so is the beautiful, cooler weather Arizonans know to expect this time of year. Once you get out your boots and scarves, the only thing left to do is prepare your Scottsdale home for fall. These tips will help you get started.
- Change your air filter. Anyone with a home in Scottsdale has been using their air conditioner practically nonstop for months. Now that it’s about to get a long break until next year, it’s easy to forget about it. But you should actually treat it to a new air filter, especially if you plan to use your heater at all in the next few months. This way, any air circulating in your home will be clean, and you can also save some money on your energy bills.
- Make minor home repairs. Wear and tear happens over the years, and it’s easy to put off little issues around the house. But this fall, you should strive to make the necessary home repairs, especially if family members plan to stay with you in the coming months. You’re likely familiar with spring cleaning, and now you should become equally acquainted with fall fixing! Whether you have a leaky faucet, a toilet that constantly runs, an ice maker that doesn’t work, or some squeaky floorboards, now is the time to take care of it all. And if you don’t have the skills or the patience to make repairs, you can always hire a handyman instead.
- Get ready to get cozy. Fall is the perfect time to use your fire pit or fireplace. If the one you have is wood burning, either buy or chop some wood and have it ready to go. You should also make sure your fire pit or fireplace is clean and in good condition. This way, you can simply enjoy roasting marshmallows or drinking hot chocolate in front of it once the Arizona weather gets chilly.
- Put up some fall décor. Do you have any pumpkins, cornucopias, or décor in colors like brown, red, or orange? Now is the time to pull it out and decorate your Scottsdale home with it! Even if you’re planning on selling your house soon, you can use your fall décor to stage your home. Buyers will likely appreciate it just as much as you do (though we recommend keeping holiday decorations fairly neutral – no screaming witches at the front door when selling your home!).
- Open all of your windows. But first turn off your air conditioner, and then breathe a sigh of relief that your energy bills are about to get a lot lower. Don’t you love the fall in Scottsdale?
