Now that the weather highs in the Phoenix area are approaching the 100-degree mark, it’s time to prepare your Scottsdale home for summer fun. When you plan ahead, you’ll get the most out of this season while also protecting your property from the change in weather. Here’s how to get started.
1.Prepare your barbecue for grilling season
If you haven’t used your grill in a while, now is the perfect time to bring it out and get it ready for summer. Cooking outside instead of in your kitchen can keep you from raising the temperature of your house, which is pretty important during the summer months in Scottsdale. First, you need to clean your barbecue according to the instructions, taking time to inspect it to ensure it is in good working order before you gear up to grill any food.
2.Change your air filters
Many Arizona residents change the air filter in their air conditioner at the beginning of every season, so now is the perfect time to do that. If you have allergies or are generally sensitive to impurities in the air, you might want to change the filter every month. Either way, you should check to make sure the air filter is clean before you start using the air conditioner on a regular basis, since having a clean filter is the best way to improve both indoor air quality and energy efficiency.
3.Clean your ceiling fans
If you haven’t already been using all the ceiling fans in your Scottsdale home lately, you’re probably going to start soon! Before you turn on those fans, get rid of the dust and dirt on them by spraying all-purpose cleaner into a pillowcase and then sliding it over every blade. The fans will also help to cool your home when those hot summer temperatures hit.
4.Make sure your yard is getting the right amount of water
Everyone needs more water than usual when its hits 100 degrees outside, and your lawn is no exception. Make sure it’s getting enough, but at the same time, don’t overdo it or you’ll end up with wasted water and a swampy yard. For a good compromise, the sprinklers should be coming on about every three days, preferably either early in the morning or in the evening. This is because watering your lawn during the hottest time of day – about 11 am to 3 pm – can result in a lot of wasted water since it evaporates fast in the heat.
5.Organize the summer gear in your garage
Don’t delay a trip to the pool at the Desert Camp Community Center just because you can’t find your goggles or inflatables where you left them last summer in your garage. Look for all your summer equipment now, and then try to organize it so it’s easy to find. This will help if you need to replace any equipment while supplies are still good at the local stores; also it bets digging around in the garage or storage shed in the middle of summer.
6.Fix up your outdoor space
Hopefully you’ve been spending a lot of time outside lately enjoying this beautiful spring weather, so your outdoor furniture should already be broken in for the year. As you know, how you spend a spring day in Scottsdale is a little different than how you spend a summer day outdoors here. Before you plan a nice morning on your patio, make sure you have some shade, whether it means you have to move your chairs under a large tree or get some curtains to shade your outdoor space. Make sure to cover any metal chairs with some comfortable outdoor cushions so you don’t burn yourself when you sit down to relax after a long, hot day.
