It’s an indisputable fact – kitchens sell homes. When buyers step into yours, what will they see?
Check out these five ways to make sure your kitchen steals the show when buyers come to check out your DC Ranch home for sale.
5 Ways to Make Sure Your Kitchen Steals the Show When Buyers Show Up
When buyers come over, they’ll most likely head straight to your kitchen – it’s instinct. It’s where they go in their own homes (and probably where you go in yours, too). That’s because it’s the heart of the house; it’s where many people start and end their days.
And that means you have to stage it perfectly to capture buyers’ imaginations and sell them on the lifestyle your house has to offer. Here’s how:
- Present a spotless space
- Organize everything – even the mugs
- Add plants and fresh fruit.
- Make sure your hardware is spot-free (and spot-on)
- Make updates where necessary
#1. Present a spotless space.
Even if you keep the cleanest kitchen in the community, it’s worth hiring a professional cleaning service to give your home a top-to-bottom clean before you put it on the market. That way, you only have to maintain what they’ve done.
This is especially important in the kitchen, where buyers don’t want to envision themselves scrubbing countertops, dusting range hoods or scouring the stove. You want the kitchen to be clean and appear incredibly easy to maintain so buyers are free to imagine enjoying themselves in the space.
#2. Organize everything – even the mugs.
Buyers will open your cabinets, drawers and pantry. It’s a good idea to organize everything – stack cans neatly, put your spice rack in alphabetical order and make sure all your mug handles are facing the same direction.
Buyers will notice your attention to detail, and they’ll carry that impression with them throughout the rest of your home.
Pro tip: Empty the dishwasher. Buyers will look in there, too, and you don’t want them seeing a load of dirty plates!
#3. Add plants and fresh fruit.
A potted plant can do wonders for a windowsill (especially if the view from the window is a little less than impressive), but if you’re not lucky enough to have a green thumb, stick to a vase of freshly cut flowers instead.
Consider adding a fruit basket to the counter, which should otherwise be clear. Add fresh oranges, lemons, limes and apples for a beautiful mix of color that buyers will love.

#4. Make sure your hardware is spot-free (and spot-on).
Your cabinet hardware should be clean and modern. If it needs a little update, do it – this is a relatively inexpensive upgrade that can make a world of difference for buyers. Search for hardware that matches your light fixtures and faucets or go bold and create a modern twist.

#5. Make updates where necessary.
If your light fixtures, faucets or anything else needs to be updated, now is the time to do it.
You want buyers to see that you’ve kept up with your home and that you take good care of it, and keeping it modern is one of the best ways to show them. Don’t make any major improvements without talking to your real estate agent first, though – you don’t want to go overboard and cut into your profits from selling the home.
