Now that school’s out for summer, the kids are going to need some fun events to attend outside of the house; simply heading to the park in the middle of the day is no longer an option as it gets hotter out. Fortunately, there are plenty of Scottsdale summer events for local children and teens to attend. Here are a few that are coming up in June.
McCormick Stillman Railroad Park’s summer concert series
If you’ve ever brought your kids to Scottsdale’s best train park, you know they’ll love pretty much any summer event here. The summer concerts at this park take place every Sunday from 7:30 pm to 9 pm, right when it starts to cool off.
During this free event in Scottsdale, your family can listen to live music, purchase food from vendors, and ride the train and carousel for $2 per person. The concert series runs until July 3, so be sure to grab some blankets or chairs and head to this Scottsdale summer event before then! You can find out more – including the band lineup – by going to the park’s website.
Mighty Mud Mania
If you’re a longtime Scottsdale resident, you’ve heard of this fun summer event, because it’s been going on for over 40 years! This year, it will take place on Saturday, June 11 from 7:30 am to 1 pm at its usual Chaparral Park location.
As you might imagine from the name, Mighty Mud Mania is a messy, fun Scottsdale summer event that is all about playing in the mud. There are several obstacle courses for different age groups, with everything from rope swings to slides and mud pits. While the event is free, you can buy a fast pass for $10, and you’re also encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations. You can find out more about Mighty Mud Mania here.
Harkins Summer Movie Fun program
You know where you can always find the cold air blasting in the middle of summer? The local movie theater! Thanks to the long-running Harkins Summer Movie Fun program, kids all around the Valley can cool off while watching a movie at a great price.
That’s because the movies in this program – which include Minions, Shaun the Sheep, Home, and more – are all targeted toward children, and tickets for the 10-week program cost only $7. This means your kids can watch each movie for less than $1 each! The movies will start at 9:45 am on weekdays, and the Scottsdale Harkins locations that are participating in the Summer Movie Fun Program include Shea 14 and Scottsdale 101. You can learn more here.
Dive-In Movies at Desert Camp Community Center
If your children prefer watching movies in the great outdoors, take them to the Dive-In Movies summer series at the Desert Camp Community Center pool. Starting Friday, June 3, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, local families can watch some great movies from the refreshing pool.
The first movie of the series will be Inside Out. On June 10, Cinderella will be playing, while Goosebumps will be the movie on June 17. Finally, Tomorrowland will finish off this series on June 24. Call the Community Council at (480) 342-7178 if you have any questions about this Scottsdale summer event.
Summer Theatre Camp in DC Ranch
Another fun event for kids in Scottsdale is the Homestead Community Center’s own Summer Theatre Camp: Mystery at the Ranch. It will take place from Monday, June 6 to Friday, June 10, from 9 am to 3 pm, and is perfect for children between the ages of 7 and 12.
At this theatre camp, participants will spend the week using teamwork, theatre skills, and spy gear to solve mysteries. It costs $100 for children who live in DC Ranch and $200 for non-residents. You can register here.
