If you’re thinking of updating your DC Ranch home, a kitchen remodel might be on your mind. After all, a recently published study by Houzz found that 43 percent of respondents no longer liked their kitchen! To give you some ideas, here are some of the most popular kitchen remodel trends we are seeing this year.
1. Gray cabinets
If you’re interested in painting your kitchen cabinets, one of the top colors this year is gray. This color is the new neutral shade, and it complements most other colors. If your kitchen is spacious and bright, you can paint your cabinets a darker shade of gray. If it’s smaller or has limited natural light, sticking with light gray may be best. Either way, you can benefit from this kitchen trend this year.
2. Black and white color schemes
Black and white was once a classic pairing in the kitchen, and 2016 seems to have brought this kitchen trend back. You can add a white tile backsplash and paint the cabinets white, and then buy all black appliances and install black quartz or granite countertops. If your kitchen doesn’t have lots of natural light and you’re nervous about making it overly dark with too much black, you can always just add a black accent wall and keep everything else white – or light gray!
3. Colorful sinks
This year, it’s not unusual for homeowners to rely on their sink to add a pop of color during the kitchen remodel. Whether you go for the black and white color scheme or stick to neutral colors – like gray or beige – choosing a colorful kitchen sink is popular this year. In particular, farmhouse sinks in bright colors are on trend.
4. Hidden storage options
Specialty storage is another trend for this year’s typical kitchen remodel. If you want to keep your kitchen necessities organized and out of view, you have lots of clever storage options. It’s not unusual to have special drawers and cabinets to organize everything from cookie sheets and cutlery to spices and the food in the pantry. Some organized homes even feature a pet feeding station in a pull-out drawer, keeping the food and water dishes out of sight for most of the day.
5. Quartz countertops
Granite has been a popular kitchen countertop material for years. But lately, quartz has been the preferred countertop material during a kitchen remodel, especially since it comes in more colors than it used to. Other reasons for the popularity of quartz countertops are that it’s resistant to chips, scratches, and stains, all without requiring you to seal it.
