5 Incredible Attractions Near DC Ranch
There’s always something happening near DC Ranch, so whether you’re the outdoorsy-type or you prefer indoor entertainment, you’ll find plenty to do in North Scottsdale.
#1: Taliesin West
Taliesin West, a National Historic Landmark in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, is home to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and the School of Architecture at Taliesin. This exceptional attraction features Wright’s winter home and the headquarters of the Taliesin Fellowship, which was built and maintained by Wright and his apprentices. Reservations are strongly recommended, as you cannot enter the property without a tour guide. (You can book your tour here.)
#2: Pinnacle Peak Park
Pinnacle Peak Park, a fantastic place to spend a day, requires a moderate hike (it’s an out-and-back trail, not a loop) through the Sonoran Desert. The park itself covers 150 acres, and on the 1.75-mile (one-way) hike, you’ll gain about 1,300 feet in elevation. The trailhead office has plenty of informational material, as well as restrooms and drinking fountains, and four picnic tables. There’s a bike rack (bikes aren’t allowed on the trail, and neither are dogs) and a 90-space parking lot there, too. If you’re a rock climber, you’re allowed to do so in the park, but you have to call the park office for details.
#3: The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy
The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy works with the City of Scottsdale to preserve the beautiful McDowell Sonoran Preserve, which spans 30,580 acres and encompasses 195 miles of trails. The Conservancy hosts several events each month, including hikes, mountain bike clinics and educational tours. You can find a complete list of Conservancy activities and get more details here.
#4: Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West
Western Spirit has been named the “Nation’s Best Western Museum,” and it’s easy to see why. It’s packed with history, art and tributes to the West’s rich cultural heritage. You’ll discover regularly changing exhibits, events and gallery tours, as well as educational activities for all ages. This Smithsonian-affiliated museum is located near Old Town Scottsdale and other attractions, too. You can learn more about the museum’s current exhibits and activities here.
#5: Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center
The Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center rescues native wild animals that have been displaced due to development, or that are injured, orphaned or abandoned. In many cases, the animals the SWCC rescues are rehabilitated and released back into the wild – but those that can’t survive in the wild live permanently at the conservatory’s accredited sanctuary. You can pre-register to visit the sanctuary and participate in educational programs here.
