If you’re still not sure if you should start looking at homes today, here are some reasons that making an offer before the year ends is a good idea.
You’ll see some motivated sellers
Most people who have their home on the market during the holidays are eager to sell it. They know houses tend to sell faster during warmer seasons, but they still put their home up for sale, which likely means they are motivated to sell it now for one reason or another. You can benefit from this because you and your real estate agent may be able to negotiate a better deal on your new North Scottsdale home if they are ready to get out soon.
You’ll enjoy tax savings
Buying a home before the year ends means you will qualify for all the tax benefits of being a homeowner, starting in the 2015 tax year (although it is too late for this benefit in 2015, keep it in mind for 2016!). If you close on a house by December 31, you can start deducting property taxes, mortgage interest, and any other costs of being a homeowner when you do your taxes in the new year. Considering how much of your mortgage payment is made up of interest in the first few years, this is a pretty big deal.

If you’re planning to buy a brand new house in North Scottsdale, you will find that many builders have some great incentives at the end of the year. This is because they want to close the year on a strong note, so they may throw in some free or discounted upgrades when you buy a house. If you want to get more for your money – and maybe a free upgrade to the premium carpet – start your home search now rather than in January or beyond.
You’ll have less competition for homes for sale
Since so few people buy homes around the holidays, you won’t have to compete with many other homebuyers when you look at houses in December. This means you’ll have your pick of days and times to go look at houses – especially since those motivated sellers will be happy to see your interest in their home – and you’re less likely to end up in a bidding war with other buyers. So, if you happen to find the home of your dreams in North Scottsdale this winter, your chances of having your first offer accepted by the seller are probably better.
