4 Home décor trends for 2017

As 2016 comes to a close and we get ready for 2017 to begin, it’s a good idea to look ahead to home décor trends. This is especially helpful if you’re planning to redecorate or perhaps stage your DC Ranch home before you put it on the market. Here are some of the home décor trends to know for 2017.

Mixed metals

This home décor trend actually started in 2016, and it looks like it’s going to continue into next year. Basically, if you’re going to have metallic accents in your home – whether they include chandeliers or sconces – you should mix up the metal types. According to HGTV’s Vern Yip, while yellow-toned metals have been well liked lately, white-metal finishes will also be popular next year. These include pewter, stainless steel, and chrome.

Jewel colors around the house

According to Zillow’s research on home décor trends for 2017, many houses will feature some brighter colors. In particular, sapphire blue and emerald green will likely be popular. This means other jewel shades like ruby red and royal purple will probably also find their way into homes next year. If you want to replace some neutrals in your house with brighter shades, you can incorporate these colors into your couch, picture frames, rugs, or the paint on the wall.

Marble surfaces

Another material that you can expect to see more of in 2017 is marble. You can already see it in some homes, since marble countertops in kitchens and bathrooms look very nice. You might also see it in flooring and in home accent pieces, such as vases. If you’re not ready to update your countertops and floors with marble, consider buying a table with a marble surface on top so you can get in on this trend now. You can also decorate your house with statues, planters, coasters, or a wall clock made of this material.

Built-in bars

Built-ins are big in many luxury homes, they’re usually in the form of shelves and desks. The new trend is to build a bar into your home. So if you want to appeal to buyers as you sell your home next year, adding a bar – complete with a countertop, bar stools, and storage space for liquor and glasses – may be helpful.

Have you started using any of these home décor trends yet? Now is the time to try them out if you’re hoping to sell your house in 2017. If you’re looking to buy in 2017, contact The Matheson Team today by filling out the form below.
