If you’re selling your home in DC Ranch, your REALTOR® will talk to you about staging and getting the house ready for sale – but how’s your bathroom doing? Are you making any of these horrible design faux pas that buyers hate?
3 Bathroom Design Trends Buyers Hate
Most REALTORs will encourage buyers to look past cosmetic issues when they’re trying to help clients find their dream homes, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make your home as appealing as possible. In fact, if your house has any of these three bathroom design problems, you may want to talk to your own agent about what you should do to fix them:
- Bright, white bathrooms
- Sparse spaces with no warmth
- Obvious medicine cabinets
Here’s a closer look at each.
Bathroom Design Trend #1 That Buyers Hate: Bright, White Bathrooms
For a while, bright white bathrooms were really “in.” But then something happened: People found out that they weren’t so easy to keep clean, and that every little speck of dust or dirt stands out in an otherwise starkly white space.
So what can you do to fix your bathroom if it’s extremely white and maybe a little too bright?
Add a few splashes of soft, comforting colors – the same neutral colors you’d see at your favorite spa, like light blues, greens and beiges. If possible, consider repainting your bathroom walls; if that’s not feasible, settle for accents such as towels, colorful countertop accessories (including live plants) and relaxing art on the walls.
Bathroom Design Trend #2 That Buyers Hate: Sparse Spaces With No Warmth
Industrial-style, purely functional bathrooms are out – especially after a year of people being stuck at home craving comfortable escapes. If you have a minimalist-style bathroom, talk to your REALTOR about jazzing it up a bit. Your agent might suggest that you spring for new light fixtures (and softer, warmer LED bulbs than you currently have inside those fixtures), new faucets or even a new shower door.
People want bathrooms to be like mini-spas, so think about adding rolled up towels to a basket on a small stepstool near the tub, putting a live plant in the windowsill and putting high-end scented candles on the counter (without ever lighting them, of course).
Bathroom Design Trend #3 That Buyers Hate: Obvious Medicine Cabinets
Open shelving is becoming more popular in bathrooms, so if you have a medicine cabinet that’s obviously a medicine cabinet (not a recessed niche that looks more like art), it may be time to have it removed and replaced. Talk to your agent before you make any big decisions, though – it may not be necessary to take out your medicine cabinet.
Should You Remodel Your Bathroom to Sell Your Home in DC Ranch?
Your REALTOR will let you know if you should consider a bathroom remodel before you sell your home, but in most cases, it’s not necessary. In fact, sometimes it’s best to offer buyers a credit or lower the price – but only if your bathroom is extremely dated or in poor shape. Your agent can give you guidance based on your home and your situation.
